The Blackwood Depths is a dungeon that can be accessed from the bottom of the Blackwood Caverns. It is one of the major dungeons found within the game. You will investigate the dangerous area, home to some of the most powerful and wicked creatures in all of Blackwood. Ultimately, you will search for answers in the lingering darkness, hoping to undo a fate that had befallen one individual too soon.

It is unlocked through the culmination of multiple quest lines (with a focus on Laurel's quests), after getting a room to stay in, eventually ending at Into the Abyss. After following the Shattered quest line, ending up at The Wish, and concluding at The Blackwood Depths, then the entrance to the Blackwood Depths will be open.

The recommended level for the Blackwood Depths is 39 to 40, and adventurers above 41 will be scaled down to that level for the dungeon. It is also recommended that you have at least 3 or more players before starting the dungeon. A typical group set-up will consist of one healer, one tank and one or more damage dealers.

The Blackwood Depths has two modes of difficulty. By default, the dungeon is set to Normal Mode. To change the mode from Normal to Hard, you must first break the fairy free from the webbing in the Main Access Tunnel (the top-right of the map). Then select the dialogue option "fly off to find the other spirits". The difficulty will then be set from Normal Mode to Hard Mode.

The summon stone also provides a shortcut option, allowing you to skip ahead to the rest point directly after Keraketh. This option is available once you have gathered your members, and decided to vote on this option. However, additional clearing is needed at the start to set it to Hard Mode, and you automatically forfeit your chances of obtaining Critical Care for that run.

Note that the timer for the trophy Critical Care starts on the very first pull in the dungeon - you'll see a message wishing you "Good luck", which is the indicator that the timer started. Once you meet all the basic criteria (started the dungeon without shortcuts, freeing the fairy, and setting the dungeon to hard mode), you'll see a hint about the timed trophy beyond hard mode ("You feel a strange sense of urgency..."). After each required boss (other than Zafyre) there is a break point, which pauses the timer, indicated by an appropriate message ("You feel a sense of timelessness."). Advancing after the break point displays the original message and starts the timer again.
Crystalfang
Resistances

Crystalfang is the first boss in the Blackwood Depths - Main Access Tunnel (B1 Spiders' Den). Through the shortcut method, it is an optional boss that is skipped, and can be re-fought later. It is located around the middle-right area of the map. Crystalfang's defending element is Poison 1, making it strong against most elements except Fire, Water, Wind, Light, and Poison itself (at 0%). Similar to Noxxara, this boss will attempt to devour the eggs to the right of it during the fight to become more powerful.

The main abilities that Crystalfang will use are:

* Jab: Deals a large amount of damage to the target that has it's attention (the tank). Use Smite to counter this.
* Poisonous Bite: Deals a moderate amount of damage to a target and inflicts the poison debuff. Crystalfang will constantly use this ability.
* Poison Volley: Targets all players for moderate to heavy poison damage, leaving behind a poison debuff for more damage dealt over time. The effects of this ability are deadlier the more amount of damage stacks it has. Has a fast casting time.
* Entangling Webs: Randomly targets a player, usually a damage dealer or healer, causing them to be immobilized until an ally breaks them free. They can still use skills when immobilized, but cannot break free themselves.
* Poison Patch: Places a green acidic pool underneath a random player (damage dealer or healer). Constantly deals damage to players who are standing in it.
* Nourish: Crystalfang will rush to one of the eggs on the right (the one that it will target will be highlighted in green). The longer it can eat the egg, the more damage stacks (temporary) it will gain, increasing the damage dealt from every ability it uses.
** The trophy On A Diet requires you to defeat Crystalfang without letting it reach 8 stacks of Nourish. You need to ensure that your damage dealers deal with the egg as quickly as possible once they see it. Using an AoE can help take out the egg faster, but watch for the additional monsters on the right, as you might accidentally pull them during the fight.

Strategy
The tank should have Crystalfang facing away from the rest of the group to the left, while the rest of the group remains on the right side (so that they are closer to the eggs). Make sure that every time that you are dealing with the eggs, that you aren't pulling the additional enemies to the right of the eggs by accident. The additional damage taken from those monsters can potentially knock out your group, so be careful using AoE skills.

The tank should be responsible for smiting Jab, while the damage dealers should try to interrupt the boss's Poison Volley, in order to reduce the amount of damage taken by the group. The two abilities that it will use from time to time are Entangling Webs, and Poison Patch. Make sure that as soon as you see a web on an ally, that you try to get rid of it immediately (to prevent the boss from combining the two abilities together). If not taken care of, the web can prevent a damage dealer from attacking the egg, and let Crystalfang get more damage stacks for it's abilities.

Every so often, Crystalfang will focus it's attention from the tank to one of the random three Crystalline Hoard eggs on the right. These eggs are invincible, and can only be destroyed if it is the target egg that Crystalfang wants to eat (shown by a green marker). You must defeat Crystalfang before it can finish eating all three of the eggs, and trying to come back around for the fourth (it will enrage, seeing that there are no eggs left).

Note that the platform that you fight Crystalfang on has a hidden platform below. You cannot access this platform, but it can mess with the placement of your AoE attacks. Slightly move your cursor upwards to prevent accidentally casting it on the hidden platform instead.

Keraketh
Name
Keraketh
Level
42
Classification
Insect
Element
Neutral 1
Health
283,000
Resistances
Immune to stun, freeze, silence, sleep, and charm.

Keraketh is the second boss in the Blackwood Depths - Main Access Tunnel (B1 Sand Grotto). Through the shortcut method, it is an optional boss that is skipped, and can be re-fought later (if you want to face it, go to the Upper Tunnel Hub, and take the portal on the left). It is located on the bottom-right area of the map. As you approach, you'll either see a fairy trapped in a cage (indicating that it is NM), or no fairy or cage at all (indicating that it is HM). This is a direct consequence of what option you chose back when you were saving the fairy from the webbing.

Keraketh's defending element is Neutral 1, making it vulnerable against Ghost (+25% more damage). It is also vulnerable against Light, Dark and Poison (+12.5% more damage). A Mage should ideally decide between Fire or Water (depending on their preference, as both are 0%).

Name
Armoured Mantis
Level
42
Classification
Insect
Element
Earth 1
Health
95,000
Resistances
Resistant to stun, freeze, silence, sleep, and charm.

In NM, the differences in the fight was that only one Armoured Mantis would spawn. The fairy would break free from it's cage, and take care of the Armoured Mantis while you were fighting Keraketh. If you were to let Keraketh use Gastric Spray on the Armoured Mantis while it was taken care of by the fairy, the fairy will aid you for a bit and then leave. In addition, there aren't as many prey that spawn on the field. In HM, there is no fairy to help you deal with the Armoured Mantises, and they spawn two at a time. There is more prey on the field for your group to deal with.

The main abilities that Keraketh will use are:

* Scythe Slash: Deals a moderate amount of damage to the target that has it's attention (the tank).
* Poison Volley: Targets all players for moderate poison damage, leaving behind a poison debuff for more damage dealt over time. Has a fast casting time.
* Poison Barrage: Targets a random player, constantly dealing damage to them every second for several seconds. Can be interrupted.
* Collapse: Makes two stone pillars fall from the ceiling, targeting over a medium area each (indicated by a yellow circle). Deals a large amount of damage and stuns any player caught by the falling pillars.
* Gaze & Gastric Spray: Keraketh will focus their eyes on a random player, indicated by the incoming message. At this time, Keraketh will continue to attack the tank until several seconds later, where it will use Gastric Spray (a stronger version of Poison Breath) in the direction that the chosen player is at. Deals a large amount of poison damage every second, and kills any armoured mantises caught in the breath.
** The trophy Bad Breath requires you to let Keraketh use Gastric Spray on three armoured mantises. This requires being on hard mode, having a healer & two damage dealers with Nightfall and Flash Freeze. You'll have to wait until Keraketh spawns two mantises, continue to freeze/put them to sleep. Then, wait for the next set of mantises to spawn, and freeze them/put them to sleep, or have a tank grab the attention of one or two of them all in the same spot. Then, right before Gastric Breath comes, have the targeted character stand behind all of those mantises.
* Stomp: Keraketh will stomp, causing several webbed prey to fall down. Each webbed prey takes significantly less damage from AoE attacks, so you'll have to defeat them one by one.
* Devour: After the webbed prey falls down, Keraketh will automatically target a nearby prey to eat it, and gain a damage buff for a short amount of time. If it eats more than two prey in a row, it will enrage, giving it a massive damage boost. Keraketh will still follow the player that has it's attention.
* Bladedance: After 30 seconds of the prey falling down, Keraketh will teleport to every webbed prey that is still alive, and use Devour to eat it.
* Frenzy: At around 10% of Keraketh's health, it will not use any auto-attacks or skills except this one. It will constantly do damage to the target that has it's attention (the tank) every second. The damage Keraketh inflicts will slowly raise over time.

When do you get bound?
In most maps, monsters quickly respawn, so any adventurer has the opportunity to fight them. Since dungeons are created specifically for you and your group, they follow different rules:

* Once a monster has been defeated, it will usually not respawn for one hour (gauntlets with quick respawns are an exception).
* Once a boss has been defeated, it will not respawn at all until the dungeon resets. In addition, many monsters that lead up to the boss will also no longer respawn.

When you defeat a boss (or start notable events inside a dungeon), you are bound to that particular instance of the dungeon. This is indicated by a message in your chatbox. Any bosses that you defeated will stay defeated until the dungeon resets. You can check when your dungeons reset by typing "/dungeons" in the chatbox.

Significant events occurring in the dungeon may also bind you, as well. For example, starting the timed event to save Alexandra in the Battle for Ashaya, or unlocking the shortcut in the Blackwood Depths will bind you to the dungeon.

How binding affects groups
Being bound to a dungeon affects who you can go into the dungeon with - and how your group should be organised. There are several rules that determine what dungeon you end in.

Everyone is bound to the same dungeon instance
If your friends and you are all bound to the same dungeon, you go into the same dungeon, no matter what. Upon zoning in, you will receive the following message to alert you that some bosses are already defeated:
<span style="color:rgb(120,100,80)">This dungeon is already in-progress, and some bosses may have already been defeated.</span>

Group members are either bound to the same dungeon instance, or not bound
If at least one player is bound to a dungeon, but the rest isn't, a player who is bound needs to lead the group.
Should you forget that, and the person who leads the group isn't bound, then anyone who is bound to the dungeon will receive the following message upon zoning in:
<span style="color:rgb(120,100,80)">NB. You are already tied to this dungeon. To travel it with friends, you have to start the group.</span>

If that happens, anyone who is bound to the dungeon needs to be made the group leader. By doing this, everyone goes into the same dungeon (namely the one the group leader is bound to), and receives the normal "in-progress" message:
<span style="color:rgb(120,100,80)">This dungeon is already in-progress, and some bosses may have already been defeated.</span>

Group members are bound to multiple different dungeon instances
If players are bound to multiple different dungeon instances, you cannot enter the dungeon together. Anyone who is bound to a different dungeon than the group leader will receive the following message upon zoning in:
<span style="color:rgb(120,100,80)">NB. Your group leader is tied to a different dungeon instance than you.
To travel this dungeon with them, you have to wait for one of your dungeons to reset.</span>

You either need to wait until the dungeon hard resets, or use a Dungeon Reset Scroll (which you can obtain from Radium for participation tokens). Running a dungeon that takes two hours multiple times a day can be quite exhausting - so we generally recommend waiting for the hard reset (which happens every day for short dungeons, and every two days for longer dungeons) - there are other dungeons to run, events to participate in, and quests to complete.

A dungeon reset refers to the event when all the monsters inside a dungeon respawn, as in, the dungeon resets to its original state. There are two types of resets in Paw'D:

* During a soft reset, all regular monsters inside a dungeon will respawn, however bosses that were defeated will not. A soft reset occurs if everyone in your group leaves the dungeon for at least 30 minutes. You can also manually initiate a soft reset if the original leader of your group types "/reset" in their chatbox (note that everyone has to leave the dungeon for that). A successful reset after typing "/reset" is acknowledged with a message in your chatbox, if you do not see anything, someone else of your group was the original leader and needs to type "/reset". You can also start a group with a different leader, which has a similar effect to a soft-reset.

* During a hard reset, the dungeon fully resets - any events reset, any monsters and any bosses respawn. A hard reset occurs a set time (usually 20 hours) after the first boss has been killed. If a group is inside a dungeon when a hard reset would occur, the hard reset is performed together with the next soft reset. You can delay a hard reset by typing "/dungeons" to see all dungeons you are bound to, and then clicking whichever dungeon you want to prevent from resetting. This will delay a reset for 12 hours.

Important: If are still in the dungeon when the hard reset would occur, and you defeat any bosses in that dungeon without letting it reset, you will be bound to the same dungeon instance again.

Running a dungeon that takes two hours multiple times a day can be quite exhausting - so we generally recommend waiting for the hard reset (which happens every day for short dungeons, and every two days for longer dungeons) - there are other dungeons to run, events to participate in, and quests to complete.

An instance is essentially a copy of a map. It contains the same kind of monsters and NPCs as the original map, however apart from that, it is completely separate. Instances can be created for two main reasons, which affects how much influence you have on the instance.

Crowded maps
When you enter a map with a lot of players already on it, a new instance will be created for you. You can tell that you are on a separate instance by looking at the map name on the top right of your screen, which will have a number appended to it, which indicates what instance you are on. For example, if you enter Saliko Village, and the map name reads "Saliko Village 2", you are on instance #2. Instance #1 does not have a number next to it.

Usually, when you are in a group, everyone in the group will enter the same instance - so grouping up with friends is a great way to stay together, even in crowded maps. You can also switch to the other instances manually, by clicking the map name on the top right of your screen. This will show you a list of all other instances, together with how many adventurers each instance currently has. Clicking on any of the instance numbers will switch you to it.

Notes
* Since instances are separate, monsters may be on a different location in whichever instance you switch to. Be careful that you do not end up in a pack of hostile monsters!
* If you enter a new instance, rare monsters may or may not be spawned on it. The spawn time is random, so you may just get lucky!
* Public chat between instances is separate. If you chat in public, only other adventurers in the same instance as you can hear you. This only affects public chat, not affect whispers, group or guild chat, or chat channels such as #Main.
* You cannot switch instances during or shortly after combat.
* Once you switched instances, there is a short delay before you can switch instances again. Note that this delay can be longer if you switch instances outside villages.

Dungeons
Dungeons are isolated areas with tough monsters and bosses, which you can enter with your group. Because of that, they are always instanced: when you enter a dungeon, a copy of that dungeon is created just for you and your group. This ensures that everyone gets their own monsters, and their own boss. The dungeon instance you enter depends on several factors:

* Generally, if you are in a group, you go into the same instance as whoever started the group.
* Certain important events (such as killing a boss, or starting an event inside the dungeon) will bind you to your dungeon instance. This saves your progress, so that when you return to the dungeon, you will enter the same instance as before, until your dungeon expires (this is called a "hard reset", and typically happens after 20 hours).
* If you are bound to a dungeon, and you want other friends to help you that are not bound, you need to start the group. This ensures they go into your dungeon, even though they are not bound, yet.

Notes
* You cannot switch between instances inside dungeons (you will not be able to click the map name on the top right), since the instance you go to depends on the group you are in.
* You cannot advance deeper into dungeons while you are in combat. So, even though you can make a run for the portal, you will not be able to enter it until you drop out of combat.
* Typing "/dungeons" in your chatbox shows you a list of all dungeons you are currently bound to, and when they expire.
* You can type "/reset" in your chatbox to soft-reset all your dungeons. This will respawn most monsters, however it will not unbind you from the dungeon. Unbinding only happens during the timed hard-resets.

Masked monsters, which are shown to be "Level --", are monsters that are significantly higher level than you.
Their exact level is not shown (as its stats against you are maxed out), however they are at least ten levels above your own, and you should probably consider running (away).

* A masked monster has a greatly increased chance to hit you with critical strikes (+50%), and is unlikely to miss (-95%).
* At the same time, your chance to hit a masked monster is greatly decreased (-90%).
* They will be highly aggressive towards you, attacking you from a much greater distance than they would normally do.
* A masked monster gives you virtually no experience (-90% before any sharing). If you are in a group, your share of the experience that you receive is reduced to a small fraction of its original value (note that the share you receive is already reduced by being in a group with much higher levelled players). This is why begging high-levelled players to "boost" you is likely not a very good use of time for either of you. If you want to receive the highest possible amount of experience per kill, group up with several friends of your own level, or enable level syncing in the group options.

Unlike regular groups, which are somewhat temporary, guilds let you stay in touch with your friends over long period of times. There's no requirement to be in a guild, or even direct advantage - aside from the social aspects. Still, being part of a community with common goals or interests, that looks after each other can be quite helpful.

Guilds offer a variety of features to its members:

* Guild chat (/g, or #Guild)
* A guild bank where guild members can store potions, armor and other resources.
* Some guilds help their members by covering some of their repair costs.
* Alliances with other guilds for guild battles (and the #Allies alliance chat)
* Ranks, letting them give additional privileges to their higher ranked members.
* Guild pages, allowing their members access mail and armor repair outside of towns.

Getting into a guild is not difficult, but finding the right guild for you can be.
Usually you join an existing guild, by receiving an invitation from someone who's already in that guild, and has permission to invite others. They can either type "/ginvite yourname" or go to the guild roster, click on "Add", and enter your name.

Alliances
If you are the guild leader you can ally with up to two other guilds. For example, if you allied with another guild, then both guilds can work together during Guild_versus_Guild and, if you win, you both share the rewards.

Only the guild leader (or guild members with the privilege "Manage Alliances") can create alliances. The command to do so is /galliance name-of-other-guild-leader.

* When you ally with other guilds, you share the limit of how many players can be queued for GvG.

* It is possible to fall from the pillars in the second floor, which incurs heavy fall damage and will likely cause you to be knocked out.

Bosses
High Overseer Rotclaw
This boss is located in a small cave to the right as you descend, guarded by two Deep Mine Workers. His main ability is a poison patch that he places randomly on the ground. While standing it can be healed through, it is easy (and good practice) to avoid it and receive no damage entirely. He will also cast Curse of Slowness on players.

High Overseer Rotclaw is the only boss where players can respawn and rejoin the fight after being knocked out, due to the respawn point being located on the same map as the boss. However, every time a player dies, Rotclaw will use Drain Spirit, healing him for a substantial amount of health.

Zhaakan
Zhaakan is the final boss of the Deep Mines, and is located at the very bottom of the cave. Defeating him is the objective of Sei's quest, "The Curse". He has two main abilities you need to watch out for:

* Icicle: Summons an icicle above a player, which will hang in the air for a few seconds and then crash down. Running away from under it lets you avoid any damage (and is required for the "Safety First" trophy).

* Frost Breath: This is a channeled frontal AOE damage spell that deals high amount of water damage. Running behind him when while he is casting it, or using Smite to interrupt it lets you avoid all the damage. For this reason, it's a good idea that mages, priests and hunters stay at range, and warriors stay behind him. Note that one player (namely the one Zhaakan attacks) will always be in front of him (as Zhaakan will turn if they try to move behind him).

Remember that you should not respawn if you do get knocked out, unless your entire group gets knocked out, or you are sure that they will not beat the boss. Once you respawn, you cannot get back into the map until either the boss, or the remaining group members have been defeated, and hence you will neither be able to help them, nor be able to receive any loot.

Apart from that, Zhaakan should not pose much of a trouble. Keep your health and mana high, and the fight should be over in a minute or two.

If you are completely new to Paw'D, a great way to get started is to simply read the comic on the main page. On the second page, you can pick your name and colour, and after that the story will continue right on, with you playing in the Jungle of Midnight Mountain. This will show you the basic controls, and how to play the game. Once you are done with it, you will already be ready to tackle a lot of what the game may throw at you.

In case you are still confused, have a look at the Starting Out Guide, the in-game manual, the forums and, of course, this Wiki. Good luck, and once again, welcome to Paw'D!

The Deep Mines is the first actual dungeon that new adventurers will encounter. Its recommended level range is 8 - 15, however even a group with level 10 players will not have any troubles clearing the monsters and the bosses.

Layout and Notes
Being a starter dungeon, the Deep Mines are neither large nor difficult. They consist of two floors that players descend down into. Both floors have a boss, however the first boss is optional and can be skipped.

* In the first floor, it is possible to feed Rey, a small injured cave bat with potions. If fully healed by the potions, Rey will join the group, providing healing for the first floor. Once players approach the second floor, Rey will leave for the exit.

The East Caves are a series of caves east of Saliko. Players are able to enter one, which contains the entrance to the Deep Mines, a level 10 dungeon.

Aside from cave bats and insects, the East Caves are also inhabited by several undead miners. These are very slow walkers, making the east caves a great place for priests and mages to level - as they can stay away from the zombies, while attacking them from a range.

The Mail system is that which you use to send messages, money and/or items to other players throughout Elyssia. The system is fairly simple to memorize, and easy to use. When you have mail waiting for you, a letter icon appears at the top of your screen, along with a number of how many messages are waiting for you. You will also receive a notification in your chatbox.

To access your mail, you must be near a Mail Box, and then click on it. Mailboxes can typically be found in Villages, but they may also be found in other locations (such as the entrance of the East Caves. Click the mailbox will automatically show an overview of your inbox, along with four buttons to choose from:

* Previous
* Open
* Write
* Next

There is a fifth button, the X button on the top right, to close your mailbox. Note that while you are reading or writing mail, you cannot move, fight, or shop. While, villages are generally safe from monsters, other locations may not be.

The "Previous", "Open" and "Next" buttons will be shaded out if they are not available (for example, the "Next" button only shows up once a second page of mail exists. Each page holds six letters). Your mail is sorted by date (the oldest messages go last), and there is no limit as to how much mail you can have.

To open letters simply double click it. You can also click on it, and then select "Open". Once the letter is open, you can read it, reply to it, and delete it. If items or gold are attached to to the letter, they will show at the bottom, and you can double-click to retrieve them.

Should it be that you don't have enough space for your items, as many as possible will be taken. If you reopen a letter, all items and gold that you have already retrieved will be shown for your records, but faded out. Using the "Reply" and "Delete" buttons, you can reply to the sender, or delete the letter. The "close" button closes the letter, and keeps it in your inbox. The "return" button returns the letter, and any items still attached to the sender. You cannot return a letter that has no items attached to it, or after you took all the items from it.

If you want to write a letter, press the "Write" button in your inbox. Put the name of who you want to send it to, an optional subject line, and write your letter in the centre. At the bottom, you can attach gold (by typing in the amount) or items (such as potions or armour by dragging them in from your inventory). Note that it is not possible to send quest items, or items that are bound.

Postage
The post offices of Saliko and the Kingdom of Elyssia will charge a small postage fee for delivering your letter:

* The minimum postage is 3 silver.
* Each different item you attach makes the letter heavier, and costs an extra 10 silver.
* If you write more than 100 characters, your character will need to start an extra page. This costs 2 silver.
* Sending gold or silver does not incur any additional fees.

After you finish your letter, you can either send it via the send button. Discarding the letter closes it without sending.

Special Cases
There are two cases in which you will not be able to reply to letters:

Crowd Control spells are spells that limit a character's ability to participate in combat for a certain amount of time. This is useful for situations in which you face more enemies that you can handle, and need some time to reduce the numbers of monsters (while the crowd controlled monster does not attack you).
Specifically, Crowd Control spells include:

* Nightfall (Priest): Sleep. Poison and Magic. Lasts 20 (Level 1)/40 (Level 2) seconds, effective against any targets, except mechanicals (half duration). Any damage (including, for example, damage over time effects such as Burning Embers) wakes up the target.

* Flash Freeze (Mage): Freeze. Magic. Lasts 20 (Level 1)/40 (Level 2) seconds, effective against any targets, except water elemental characters (half duration). Reduced by resistance to water. Any direct damage (melee hits or spell casts, single target or area) wakes up the target, but damage over time effects do not (Burning Embers reduces duration to 25%).

* Frost Nova (Mage): Area Freeze that freezes any target around the mage, and lasts up to 6 seconds. Apart from that, identical to Flash Freeze.

* Bash (Warrior): Stun. Physical. Lasts up to 6 seconds (Level 3), effective against any targets. Fails if the damage is completely absorbed (through a priest's Emerald Shield, a mage's Perfect Mana Shield, or potions that add absorb effects).

* Bind Elemental (Mage), Possess (Priest, available to all with a spirit bottle): Charm. Magic. Lasts up to 20 (Level 1)/40 (Level 2) seconds. While charm effects take a character out of combat, they are not true crowd control spells, as the caster using the spell has to channel to maintain it (and thus they are taken out of combat as well). However, by controlling another character you can turn them against their own kind, or cause them to take damage (jumping off high cliffs, running them into other monsters that will attack them), or position them so they take a long time to get back to where you are (again jumping down somewhere they cannot directly get back up to).

* Curse of Roots and Web (Spirit Bottle and Pets). Root. Physical. Lasts up to 8 seconds, effective against any target except insects, formless and flying. Prevents the target from moving (however they can still casts spells and fight in melee, and potentially attack their own roots to free themselves prematurely). Mages can skip out of root effects.

* Overpower (Warrior) and Curse of Slowness (Priest and Pets) can be used to slow down a target briefly.

Resistances
* In addition to the resistances listed above, characters also become resistant to any crowd control spell that is used repeatedly over a short time (the counter resets 40 seconds after the first spell expires). Applying the same crowd control spell a second time reduces its time by 50%, and applying it a third time by 75%. After that, the target is completely immune to the same kind of crowd control spell until the counter resets.

* Guardians are generally completely immune against any sort of crowd control spell.

* During PvP, the duration that crowd control spells last is reduced significantly.

Toby: /* Damage Dealing */

Aligned with earth, priests in the Kingdom of Elyssia lead a life close to nature. Over many generations, their spiritual research of plants has given them an understanding far beyond that of normal townsfolk. Believing in the power of the Light, they use powerful magic to heal their allies, and the knowledge of herbs and poisons to lay waste to their enemies.

Priests are the only class that can restore their own and other adventurers' health in battle for a long period of time. However, they are not just limited to healing. Having access to Wind, Poison and Light element spells makes them an excellent choice against a lot of monsters, and still a good option against the rest.

Typically, priests follow a path focusing either on healing or damage dealing, however a hybrid path (damage with some healing) is a great idea in many situations that can give your group the edge.

Pure Healing
Priests focusing on pure healing place most - if not all - of their skill points into the healing tree. This gives them a number of spells to keep themselves and their group alive:

Primary Spells
* Revitalize is a basic heal-over-time spell. Once cast on another character, it will heal them periodically (about every three seconds, for twelve seconds). This is the spell of choice if someone needs some healing, but isn't in immediate danger of getting knocked out. If you cast Revitalize on a target before the effect expires, it is refreshed to its full duration (they do not get extra healing if you repeatedly use Revitalize on them).
* Heal is a slow-casting direct heal spell that recovers a substantial amount of health at once. Generally, it is best used to heal someone who is taking more damage than Revitalize can heal. By combining Heal with Revitalize (cast Revitalize first, and then start casting Heal - that way the first Revitalize will tick about the same time you finish casting Heal), you can restore a lot of health at once. Unlike Revitalize (which is Earth), Heal is Light based, so it will hurt demons, undead and dark element monsters.
* Bond of Healing is a direct heal spell that recovers health of your target, and also some of your own health. This spell is very mana efficient if both you and another character are taking damage at the same time.

Emergency Spells
* Flash of Light is a quick-casting direct heal spell that recovers a little less health than Heal. It also uses more mana than Heal. Use this spell if your target has little health left and would get knocked out before your next Heal cast finishes.
* Emerald Shield is a spell that priests learn "for free", by completing a short quest chain. It can be used to shield a target from a set amount of physical and magic damage, once every 30 seconds. Its high mana cost means that this spell is best used only in emergencies to instantly stop further damage on yourself or an ally, while you prepare slower-casting spell (such as a Revitalize - Heal combo) to actually restore health.
* Song of Harmony is a wide-area healing spell that recovers the health of any friendly character around you. It is channeled, meaning that once you begin casting, it will continuously restore health until the channel ends (up to six seconds). While this spell effectively brings your entire group back to high / full health, you need to be careful about when to use it: not only does it have a high mana cost, you can also use it only once every seven minutes. Finally, it is advisable to shield yourself from damage while channeling it (using Emerald Shield), so that enemies don't interrupt your channel.

* Revive allows you to bring a knocked out player back to life. It is primarily meant for out-of-combat recovery, since any damage to you will cause the spell to fail. However, with good timing and a bit of luck, you can succeed in reviving a knocked out group member even during boss battles. Watch the spells your enemies carefully, and once you identified a time window where you won't receive much (or any) damage, shield yourself and begin casting revive. Note that revive uses a lot of mana, even if the spell fails.

* Divine Clarity makes the next spell that you cast instant, and can be used once every three minutes. Combine this spells with the previously listed spells for different effects - for example, Divine Clarity + Heal for an instant large heal, or Divine Clarity + Revive for an instant revive that will always succeed.

Notes
* Especially in dungeons, the health restoring services of a priest are very important. While some dungeons (such as the Cultist Prison) use mechanics that allow completing it without a priest, most dungeons expect a group that challenges them to have a healthy mix of classes.
* Every dungeon can be completed without any of your group members getting knocked out. However, depending on your group members, that may not be possible. In this case you have to triage:
** Generally (unless a boss is almost down, and the only way you may win is by giving one of the other group members one final heal), you should try to keep yourself up. If you get knocked out, no one gets healed anymore, and your group will most likely get knocked out quickly.
** The second most important is the player holding the boss. If they get knocked out, the boss will look for a new target (which might just be you) - which will likely take quite a bit more damage than a heavily armored warrior.
** Next in line are the damage dealing players, considering their own capabilities of staying alive (a mage with almost full mana can use Mana Shield to protect themselves at the cost of mana) and how much damage they do to the boss (saving someone who is dishing out large amounts of damage to the boss every second they stay alive will help your group succeed more than someone who is slowly whittling it down).
** You do not need to keep everyone alive. If someone is continuously standing in a poison patch, requiring constant and large (emergency) heals, you will quickly run out of mana and then everyone in your group will get knocked out (that person usually being the first to go when the constant stream of heals stop). Throw them a revitalize, and hope they will see the "low health" warning as a cue to look at their feet, to see what they're standing in.
** Bosses are balanced in the expectation that your damage dealers are alive for 75% of the time (however some may well need to stay alive 100% of the time to deal the same damage another player deals that was alive 75% of the time).
* Monsters will notice you healing. Unless someone else is attacking them (warriors can swipe, mages and damage dealing priests can use area spells to keep multiple monsters occupied) they will go straight for you when you heal someone they attack. You are not expected to hold those monsters on you - if this is causing you troubles, you might hint to the rest of the group that they should help you there.
* In case you have a moment of quiet and no one needs any heals, just wait. You do not need to be constantly casting a spell. If someone is at 98% health, using revitalize will mostly be wasted: the first tick will bring them to 100%, and the remaining ticks will have no effect, since they're already at full health. In the Combat Log, this is recorded as an "overheal".

Damage Dealing
Priests that focus on dealing damage will spend most of their skill points in the damage tree. It contains the following main spells:

* Poison and Poison Patch: These spells periodically deal damage over time, and are extremely effective against any of the elements, with the exception of fire, dark and ghost. Poison Patch is an area spell that stacks (the longer your target resides in the poison, the more damage they receive), while Poison is a single target spell that does not stack (poisoning a target you already poisoned simply resets the time on the poison to full). With Leeching Poison, you recover a small amount of mana every time your Poison spell deals damage.
* Petal Rain is your primary wind spell. It is a ranged magic attack that is very effective against water, fire and ghost, and still somewhat effective against dark element monsters. Similar to your Poison spell, leeching poison allows you to get some of your mana back every time you use Petal Rain.
* Judgement and Exorcise are light element spells (Exorcise is an area spell, whereas Judgement is single-target). These are the spells to use against dark and neutral element monsters.

* In addition to the damage spells above, Spiritual Regeneration is a useful spell that allows you to restore a large amount of your mana every three minutes. This can cut down the number of mana potions that you would have to use otherwise.

* Nightfall is a crowd control spell that is useful even to healing priests - essentially, it causes an enemy fall asleep for a certain time, as long as they do not receive any damage. At level 2, Nightfall can take a target out of combat for up to 40 seconds.

Hybrid
A hybrid priest uses spells for both, damage dealing and healing. Which spells you pick exactly is up to you, and what you need.

For example, you can go with a full damage dealing build, and then, with your remaining skill points, get the highest level of Revitalize that you can. That way you can deal damage to your enemies, while using Revitalize on yourself and your allies to constantly recover health. At level 32, the maximum level of revitalize recovers around 115 health every second - so the health that you gain back is quite substantial. In addition, since Emerald Shield is "free" (meaning you do not need spend a skill point for its first level), you will always have it at least at level 1. This can be used to buy yourself some time without damage, so that revitalize can heal you up more. Kiting (where you run around with monsters chasing after you) can also be very effective in avoiding damage.

Toby: /* Hybrid */

* The quickest way to get to their page is entering their name at the search box in the forum, and then clicking on "Lookup Character".
* You can also type http:/<b></b>/www.pawdgame.com/adventurers/ into your address bar, and then add their name to it (spaces become underscores). So, to go to the profile page of Pike, type http://www.pawdgame.com/adventurers/Pike .
