Skill Usage

Thunderbolt is generally the mage spell of choice against water element monsters. It is less effective against wind and earth element monsters.

Thunderbolt benefits from the effects of the following skills:

Flash Freeze and Frost Nova: Frozen targets are water element (between level 2 and 3), so Thunderbolt will receive a 50-75% damage bonus.

Overcharge: If skill points are allocated into Overcharge, then each Thunderbolt attack will inflict one "Lightning Change" debuff onto the target. The "Lightning Charge" debuffs can then be removed by Lightning Rod to regenerate a percentage of mana per "Lightning Charge" absorbed. Alternatively, if the "Lightning Charge" debuffs are not removed, every fifth Thunderbolt will deal 25% additional damage.

Wind Burst and Lightning Bolt: If Lightning Bolt is followed up after Wind Burst on a target affected by Mist (lasting six seconds), Lightning Bolt will cause the target to suffer Conductivity for three seconds. Conductivity will cause a target to become stunned for two seconds and sustain 50% more damage if it is followed up with a Thunderbolt.

Notes

In addition to directly attacking your opponent, you can use Thunderbolt in a variety of ways.

  • Thunderbolt is one of the few spells that can have a knockback. This is more useful than it appears: warriors need to be up close to do damage, which means knocking them back distances them from you. The knockback effect are hard to obtain in the first 20 levels. Items that give the knockback effect are: Lucy's Tiara (from the Battle for Ashaya dungeon), Coronet of the Tempest and Thorny Bramble Hat (both bought in Ashaya for dungeon tokens). At level 22, the Charm of Thunder (bought with quest and dungeon tokens in Argan Jungle) adds a knockback effect to Thunderbolt as well.
  • At level 22, another charm tied to Thunderbolt is the Charm of Lightning, allowing the spell to randomly hit nearby targets for 12.5% of it's regular damage.
  • Combine the use of Thunderbolt with Flash Freeze. Flash Freeze freezes your opponent for a limited amount of time, turning them into water element. Because wind element damage is highly effective against water, your damage from thunderbolt is increased if you hit your opponent while they are still frozen. This can be very useful in combat. The combo of Flash Freeze and thunderbolt is just as common as embers and ignite are.
