A Trial is a battle that is undertaken by one or more adventurers. It is instanced, meaning that an area is created for you and your group, in which you can complete the tasks of the trials without interference from anyone else. In addition, the health and the damage output from monsters in the trial changes depending on how many adventurers are participating in the trial.

Differences to Dungeons

In a way, trials are a lot like dungeons. However, there are several important differences:

  • While in a trial, your level is always scaled down to the level of that trial. Even if you are in a group in which everyone is level 30, while fighting Stix in his trial your levels will be set to 25.
  • Similar to dungeons, you can not rejoin the battle if you are knocked out during the battle and choose to respawn. However, since trials usually do not have a safe zone, choosing to respawn will let you observe the fight, while hidden from the action. While observing, you cannot cast any spells or attacks.
  • Should your entire group get knocked out, the trial will reset and everyone will be revived back to full health immediately.
  • Loot mode is set to "Loot Pool with Need" and extends to everyone on the map.

Trial Mechanics

Entering a Trial

Trials take place in an area separate of the game world, created for just that fight. To get there, you have to queue up for the trial, by doing one of the following:

  • Accepting the quest for the trial will immediately queue you up.
  • Talking to the NPC that gave you the quest for the trial will give you an option to queue up.
  • Once you accepted (or completed) the trial, you can queue up for it again by clicking the "Trials" button in your quest log, and selecting the appropriate trial.

Once sufficient adventurers are queued up for a trial, everyone will be asked to confirm their readiness, and the entire group is teleported to the area of the trial. Upon leaving the trial, everyone is returned to where they were before (unless they were inside a dungeon, or knocked out).

The Observing Status

If you are knocked out during a battle and choose to respawn, you can observe the battle, however you cannot interact with the monsters or your group. Because of that, you should carefully consider whether you want to respawn - once you do, you can no longer revived by other group members still in the trial.

In addition, if a group that is currently participating in a trial still has room, you may be placed in it if you queue up. Should they be in the middle of the battle, you will automatically be observing it until the encounter ends. Note that if the boss is defeated in that attempt, you won't receive its loot (as the group would not even know you are there). However, should the encounter reset, you are eligible for loot just like everyone else.

Leaving a Trial

You can leave a trial in one of three ways:

  • If you sign out by clicking "Logout".
  • If you defeat the trial, and then enter the portal.
  • By clicking on the "Battle" icon on the left, and selecting "Leave".

In addition, players in the trial can initiate a vote to remove players that are away from the group. Players that are removed in that way will not be matched up with that particular group again if they re-queue.
