What caused the demons to appear in the mine?

( SPOILER ALERT ) Okay so my friend Napstablooky asked me the question in the title. I said I don't know so I found it out myself after that.
I made another player ( already deleted ) and tried to discover it. I got in the cave while Jack and Tina were attacking the monsters. IT WAS A DEMON ROOT! Wow... a plant that can summon monsters... EPIC. Sorry I don't have a screenshot of it. It wont let me >.< It looked like a big branch with yellow thorns.

I think they can do it...Like, in cursed farm and Mona, at some stages monsters summon cursed roots. Never heard of it opposite though..

The caves go deeper down - you just see the monsters that were closest to the surface when you broke the wall open.

Re-entering the mine will be a dungeon in the future. ;)
