Skill Usage
Fire Wall is a bread and butter AoE skill that deals fire elemental damage every second for up to 10 seconds on enemies that come into contact with the fire wall. Seen as a skill with a very short range and high mana consumption that should be used exclusively against multiple monsters; this is not the only way to use it. With a bit of guidance, the skill can easily become one of the best - if not great skills for many situations as a mage focusing on fire skills.
Fire Wall is affected by Infernal Heat, adding a knockback effect to the skill. This effect can cause enemies that come into contact with the wall to be slightly pushed away until after the third time, which then they will no longer be knocked back.
When a monster is standing in a Fire Wall, using Fire Bolt in tandem increases your overall DPS against the monster, resulting in higher damage dealt. The best way to use this spell is to cast it onto an area and make your character stand next to it (this will ensure any moving monsters will get hit, as they try to keep getting close to you). For stationary targets including bosses, you want to use Fire Wall on their location for extra damage (be careful of any gimmicks that may cause you to avoid using Fire Wall in the first place).
Notes
With a variety of tips, Fire Wall can be properly used:
- At level 35, Charm of Wandering Flame extends the duration of Fire Wall by three seconds as well as it's cooldown to 13 seconds. Periodically, the fire wall will slowly creep towards your current position, useful for enemies that like to move a lot and avoid it completely. Targets in the center of your fire wall will suffer increased damage equivalent to your magic.
- Some monsters despite the knockback effect can easily bypass or ignore the Fire Wall completely, resulting in damage being lost. Against monsters in areas where you aren't given much room to kite, you have no choice but to get close to them, as they will always follow and try to get close to you. Place a Fire Wall right beside you, until the monster comes into contact with it. Because they have no intention of staying away from you, you can take advantage of that weakness so your Fire Wall can deal it's maximum damage.
- Fire Wall inflicts the greatest amount of damage against targets that are immune to knockback and/or cannot move. This is often the case for bosses, which is why mages use it in order to increase their damage dealt.
