Skill Usage
Life Tap is a spell that allows the user to recover some of their mana in exchange for a portion of their health. For example, if you had level 2 of Life Tap and 2000 base health, you would lose 400 health and gain 300 mana. Similarly, if you had level 3 of Life Tap and 2000 base health, you would lose 400 health and gain the same amount in mana.
This spell does not consume any additional mana and has a very low cooldown, however the amount of times that a priest may use it is limited to the player's health. It is unsuitable for drawn out combat without healing, if there is no way of restoring your health (or else you risk being knocked out due to having lower health). On the flip side, it acts as an important mana restoring spell, as Dark Priests will be unable to access the spell Unfaltering Resolve without dedicating much of their points to poison and/or light.
As long as a dedicated healer exists, the more times you can use the spell without dropping your health to a critical amount that you risk being knocked out. Otherwise, you have to use it sparingly, preferably when you are close to full health.
Notes
- If a Priest invests skill points into the spell Revitalize, they can use Life Tap to it's full extent by combining the two spells, allowing you to restore much of your mana off of the health you restored over time. The result is, with a bit of mana, you regain most of your health and your mana back simultaneously.
- Base health is calculated as if you had 0 guardian stones, at 0 stamina, without any equipment. A standard level 42 Priest has about 2,200 HP. 20% of 2,200 is 440, restoring 220~440 of your mana per use of the skill.
